The importance of creating a will

If you have not yet planned for your estate, consider how to protect your hard-earned savings, provide for your loved ones, make future health decisions, and build a legacy. Creating a will is the best way to detail your wishes for who will receive your assets, who will manage your estate, and who will serve as guardian for your minor children or dependents.

Peggy continues to give back after a lifetime of volunteering

Decades ago, Peggy Crane-Epand, age 98, served as a volunteer at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Peggy recently visited for a tour of our hospital on the Anschutz Medical Campus and said she will always donate to Children’s Colorado.

“Volunteering was the best experience of my life, and I appreciate the dedication Children’s Colorado has to their patients and staff and to pediatric research,” Peggy said. To support the hospital after her lifetime, Peggy’s estate plan includes a significant planned gift.

Hank’s dedication to the Prescription Pet Program

When Hank Goldstein, 92, heard about the Prescription Pet Program at Children’s Hospital Colorado several years ago, he knew his beloved Portuguese Water Dog, Nikko, would be perfect for the job.

Through the Prescription Pet Program, trained volunteers bring their dogs through patient rooms and common areas to provide solace, joy and healing to kids and families in the hospital.

Because the Prescription Pet Program was so close to Hank’s heart, he left a legacy gift to Children’s Colorado in his estate plan and doubled his impact by tapping into an opportunity to have up to $1,000 of his gift matched and immediately given to the hospital.

Hank will never forget when he and Nikko met a teenage cancer patient in the Boettcher Atrium so she could be comforted by a dog’s presence. The young girl, in a wheelchair, lit up as soon as she saw Nikko. “It made my day,” said Hank, because he knew how much that moment meant to a child who had been through so much.
