Inspired by Experience, Committed to Care
November 17, 2025
When a medical crisis struck their family, the Wolds found hope and healing at Children's Hospital Colorado. Now, they're giving back through leadership and legacy giving.

Hildy and Jack Wold’s relationship with Children’s Hospital Colorado began in 2000 during a moment of crisis. Living in Wyoming at the time, their son was transported to Children’s Colorado after suffering a spinal fracture and needing a body cast for four months.
A few years later, their daughter experienced a near-drowning accident and was airlifted to Casper, Wyoming, where she received care from a Children’s Colorado pediatric neurologist who frequently traveled to Casper as part of the hospital’s specialty regional outreach clinics. This treatment was instrumental and critical for her recovery.
“We were the recipients of such incredible care,” said Jack. “When a health emergency happens to your family, you realize how vital it is to have access to expert pediatric care, and it makes you want to give back.”
Jack has done just that. After serving as a Trustee Emeritus of Colorado College, he joined the Children’s Hospital Colorado Board of Directors, serving as Chair from 2022-24 and now, as Past Chair (2024-26). He also serves as an appointed director on the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
“If you’re going to be involved in something, you should truly commit yourself,” he said. “Children’s Colorado has become very meaningful to our family, not just because of what they did for our children but because of what they do for so many others every single day.”
A Legacy Gift Inspired by Friendship
In 2024, Jack and Hildy documented a planned gift in response to Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation Board Past Chair Betsy Searle’s Planned Giving Challenge. The challenge encouraged supporters to make future commitments of $100,000 or more and unlock immediate funds for the hospital. Longtime friends of Betsy and her husband, Mike, the Wolds were eager to respond to the challenge.
“I was actually with Betsy when the challenge was announced, and I said, ‘Sign us up,’” Jack recalled. “It was a great opportunity to give back in a meaningful way through our estate plan.”
The Wolds chose to split their future gift between two areas that have deeply impacted their family: the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and the hospital’s celiac program.
I don’t think there’s a more worthwhile organization to support than Children’s Hospital Colorado. The doctors, nurses and staff here are so mission-driven. Their expertise and compassion are a key component of what defines Children’s Colorado. When you have a sick child, you can’t wait. You need access to the best care and that’s what they provide.
