Invest In Lifesaving Pediatric Surgery

Fixing a broken arm. Repairing a heart. Removing a brain tumor. Straightening a twisted spine.  These are just a few of the surgeries performed every day at Children’s Hospital Colorado — where more children’s lives are saved in our operating rooms than anywhere else in the region.

Your investment in pediatric surgery ensures children receive the safest, most advanced surgical care available today. By supporting our expert surgical care, innovative research, robotic-assisted surgery and minimally invasive techniques, you help us make surgery as easy and effective as possible for kids and families.

Why Support Pediatric Surgery?

Consistently ranked among the top pediatric hospitals in the country, Children’s Colorado performs more than 30,000 surgeries each year — more than nearly any pediatric hospital in the country. Our high volume and broad expertise deliver some of the best outcomes nationwide

We use the least invasive approaches possible to treat nearly every system in a child’s body, resulting in less pain, faster recovery and fewer complications so kids can get back to being kids.

Children aren’t just small adults. They need specialized care tailored to their growing bodies and minds. Our team, from surgeons and anesthesiologists to child life specialists, is specially trained to treat kids at every age and stage.

From pre-surgery play therapy to age-appropriate emotional support after recovery, our child life specialists help kids and families feel confident and prepared throughout their surgical journey.

Our surgeons lead clinical trials and research that shape the future of pediatric surgery. As faculty in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine on the Anschutz Medical Campus, they are widely published academic leaders who pioneer new techniques as well as train the next generation of top surgeons.

With 24 surgical specialties, Children’s Colorado offers the region’s most comprehensive pediatric surgery program. Our surgeons have developed innovative procedures now used around the world, setting the standard for care.

Children’s Colorado is one of several Enterprise Zones designated by the State of Colorado to encourage economic growth. Colorado taxpayers who make qualifying gifts to Children’s Colorado may be eligible for a generous State of Colorado income tax credit of up to 25% if giving an outright gift of cash or tax credit of 12.5% for gifts of appreciated stock. Surgical Leadership Sets the Standard

Nicholas Cost, MD, Ponzio Family Chair in Pediatric Urology.

At the helm of Pediatric Urology is Nicholas Cost, MD, a nationally recognized expert in both pediatric urology and urologic oncology. As the Ponzio Family Chair in Pediatric Urology, Dr. Cost leads care for children with complex conditions, including kidney and testicular cancers, using minimally invasive and reconstructive techniques that improve long-term outcomes and quality of life.

Dr. Cost is also shaping national standards. As Chair of the Children’s Oncology Group Renal Tumor Committee, he’s helping lead clinical trials that will guide how kidney cancers are treated across the country.

For Dr. Cost, exceptional care goes beyond the operating room. He’s building a program focused on every aspect of a child’s experience, from diagnosis to survivorship, and prioritizing research that amplifies the voices of patients and families. His goal? To ensure every child receives world-class treatment along with compassionate, personalized support that lasts far beyond surgery.
