Invested in Colorado’s Future: Craig Smith
April 2, 2026
Colorado native and business leader Craig Smith is investing in Colorado’s future through decades of dedicated philanthropy with Children’s Hospital Colorado. From corporate leadership to planned giving, Craig and his family are leaving a lasting legacy for kids across the region.
As a Colorado native, business leader and father of three, Craig Smith has always felt deeply connected to his community.
More than a decade ago, he joined the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation’s Corporate Leadership Council while serving as CEO and President at Home Advisor. There, he led company-wide support through fundraisers, blood drives and employee giving campaigns. Today, he continues his commitment as a member of the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation Board of Trustees, raising funds for the health and well-being of kids across the region.
“From my very first Children’s 101 experience at the hospital, I was blown away,” Craig said. “The family-centered care, the innovation, our tremendous expertise and the impact on the community. That tour demonstrated everything we should be proud of with a nationally leading hospital right here in Colorado.”
Leaving a Legacy
In 2024, Craig and his family took their support for Children’s Colorado a step further by documenting a planned gift inspired by a special giving challenge funded by Betsy Searle, Past Chair of the Foundation Board. The challenge encouraged donors to commit or increase planned gifts of $100,000 or more and unlock an immediate $10,000 gift from Betsy to direct to a hospital area of their choice.

“As a young family, it’s not always possible to give generously right now,” he said. “A planned gift lets us support the future. It’s also a way to be intentional about the legacy we want to leave as a family. Betsy’s generous challenge also offered us a chance to support a worthy department of the hospital now.”
How Colorado Leader Craig Smith Connects Family with Philanthropy
The Smiths directed their gift to support pediatric mental health, an area they feel is urgent and personal.
“Mental health care is still stigmatized, but it’s improving,” Craig said. “We want to be part of the solution by supporting research and care, so more kids in crisis can get the help they need, sooner than later.”
The gift also reflects their values as a family. For Craig, it’s a way to teach his children about empathy, awareness and the power of giving.
“We try to help our kids understand the real challenges others face. Pediatric mental health is something they can relate to. It’s not abstract. Connecting our giving to something tangible helps them see why it matters.”
If you’re considering a gift to the Foundation, do it today. Whether it’s an outright gift or documenting a planned gift, it’s easy and meaningful. Start the conversation with your family, and with the Foundation. Think about the legacy you want to leave and take that first step. You won’t regret it.
